What is the purpose of the Right Hand Ruler?

The Right Hand Ruler aims to bridge the gap between physical intuition and theoretical learning.

It empowers students and educators to master one of the most challenging concepts in physics—the Right-Hand Rule.

Who created the Right Hand Ruler?

This visualization tool was created by a small team of STEM graduates from Kennesaw, Georgia.

Having first-hand experience with the challenges of learning the Right-Hand Rule, we’ve worked to make the learning process simpler and more accessible.

  • The Right Hand Ruler is a tool that is used to visualize the “Right Hand Rule” concept. The tool is designed to make the right-hand rule visible, repeatable, and intuitive.

    To use it:

    1. Identify the given vectors in a problem.

    2. Align the ruler so the arrows match the directions shown.

    3. Read the direction of the resulting vector directly from the remaining arrow.

  • The Right Hand Ruler supports accessibility by allowing students to physically align vectors in space as apposed to mentally visualizing them.

    • Some students learn best by doing, not imagining.

    • This tool allows users with limited motor coordination to use a standardized method of learning.

    • Provides a shared reference for inclusive teaching.
